Thanks to the triangular cooperation between the Piedmont Regional Association of REALTORS® (PRAR), New Chester Realty, and the Chester Downtown Development Association (CDDA), the National Association of REALTORS® recently awarded a Smart Growth Grant of $5,000 to bring the Better Block project to Chester.
The Dallas-based Better Block project is a demonstration tool that rebuilds areas using grassroots efforts to show the potential to create a vibrant community. The project acts as a living charrette, where community members can actively engage in the “complete streets” build out process and develop pop-up businesses to show the potential for revitalized economic activity in an area, starting with a single city block or more.
Better Blocks are being performed around the U.S., Europe and Australia, and have helped cities rapidly implement infrastructure and policy changes.
Better Block co-founder Andrew Howard will be keynote speaker at the CDDA Business After Hours on April 3rd, from 5-7 p.m. at Anna’s Arbor Restaurant, 129 Gadsden Street, Downtown Chester. The CDDA After Hours is sponsored by the Chester County Chamber of Commerce and New Chester Realty.
During the event, PRAR Association Executive Dottie France will make a symbolic presentation to New Chester Realty Broker Debra Singleton and CDDA Board Chairman Mike Eland to acknowledge the necessary and successful cooperation and partnership between REALTORS® and downtown revitalization and development entities.
On April 4th, from 8:30-11:30 a.m., Howard will conduct a workshop on the Better Block approach at the CDDA Office, 137 Gadsden Street, Downtown Chester. Seating is limited so please call (803) 385- 4803 to reserve your spot.
